When We Listen to Those in Charge

#Prompt 146

They stayed in a circle, in a way that could only be seen as communing. This was serious business. Their last meeting had yielded nothing, and everyone was frustrated. Last week, it was the food situation; the week before, everyone got rashes from the new products that were supposed to be safe. Their world was changing so fast, and nothing was being done. They were back to the food situation again.

“Did I tell you guys she blended carrots?”

“Carrots?!” everyone panicked, chorusing in response to the first person who piped up above the din.

“My bro, wait till you take kale juice. I should never have come out. She adds some banana for flavour, but the flavour is never there.”

“So what do you do then?” another one asked, visibly shaken. “I ask because I heard the word ‘puree’ today, and you know my own, she gets experimental. The transition is beginning for me too.”

“I spit them out until she brings back proper food”, she responded.

“But that’s a lot of work.”

“No, that’s survival. That and a loaded diaper for every spoon she sing-songs into my mouth!”

"Enough is enough. We are sticking with breastmilk forever!"

The other babies in the circle nodded in excitement. "No more purees! Death to blenders!"

The chant was getting louder, their tiny fists shaking with conviction, and suddenly, the nursery door creaked open.

The moms walked in, smiling, completely unaware of the resistance brewing under their noses.

"Oh, look at them having the cutest baby talk!" one cooed, scooping up her child.

The first baby let out a dramatic sigh, eyes filled with quiet defiance.

They have no idea what’s coming.
