It would take nothing less than a neuro-implanted alarm to wake him up. She knew that. So she set 6 reminders, all of them ten minutes apart. Ten minutes was a short time and he couldn’t fall asleep between rings- at least, not deeply. No regular alarms for this one- she recorded a scream from a horror film they saw together. Imagine it, one minute she was just sitting in the theatre enjoying a film, the next minute, it occurred to her that she should find her phone and press record. It worked. He started going to work on time, church on time, and he even made breakfast one morning. A few years into the marriage it was clear the children had inherited it too. It was also in their genes to not be morning people. She had gotten better at alarms and grown a resistance to piercing screams. The synchronised screaming rang through the house as she sipped her morning coffee, she smiled, thinking, “Women in Stem”
