Hold Your Heart Pt. II

#Prompt 68

Rah folded the clothes in silence with the military precision Ani, her grandmother insisted on. Sometimes, her knuckles throbbed from the memory of learning how to fold clothes right, how to lay the bed, how to stir the stew so it doesn’t burn. Each lesson was drummed in with the rapping of her grandmother’s chewing stick. The stem was so long it touched the sand when she at.

Rah folded the clothes to distract herself from the sound of other children going to hunt. She had learned not to beg Ani anymore, her grandmother always answered the same.

“If you went hunting and got hurt they will find you out.”

It was true, If she got hurt but “if” was big, that “if” was very big, almost impossible. She could be a soldier just like Ani and her grandmother before her but here she was pretending to be sickly, pretending she was ailing. She could do it no more, she was hunting tonight. The pretence was over.

Today’s publication is another fragment of Rah’s adventure. Part 1 is below if you haven’t read or listened to it.
